TLW Construction Center Stage: New Partnership Propels Growth

TLW Construction Featured on the Cover of Modern Storage Media

We are pleased to announce that Modern Storage Media recently showcased TLW Construction as their cover story in the “New Directions” series. The feature highlights a significant milestone in our company’s journey: the shift from a single-owner business model to a leadership structure shared by four strategic partners.

From Family Business to Regional Builder

TLW Construction began in 1981 when Ted Williams, originally a CPA, transitioned into construction. He focused first on homebuilding before discovering a niche in self-storage. By consistently delivering with integrity and quality, the company built a strong reputation throughout the Southwest  .

In 2001, Ted’s son Tarik Williams joined the company after graduating from ASU with a degree in Construction Management. He brought modernization to the firm with computer systems, formal contracts, safety protocols and marketing. Transforming TLW from a handshake-led operation into a professionally managed enterprise  .

Weathering Industry Shifts

TLW navigated major events like the 2008 recession through resilience and adaptability. The company refocused on key markets and stayed committed to quality and innovation. In 2006, TLW established Caliber Metal Buildings, enhancing its vertical integration and control over project delivery  .

Today, TLW manages dozens of projects each year, applying these lessons to build a resilient, forward-thinking business.

A New Leadership Structure

In 2023, the firm took a strategic step forward by formalizing its leadership into a four-owner partnership that includes both Ted and Tarik. This structure recognizes the need to spread leadership responsibilities and lay a strong foundation for future growth.

Benefits for Clients and Partners

This shift to shared leadership brings benefits such as continuity, stronger accountability, and ongoing excellence. TLW continues to deliver projects with integrity, transparency, and client-centered collaboration.
